Russel Boring
I’ve been waiting for Russell Boring to drop for a minute now, and I gotta say, it did not disappoint. The production is borderline otherworldly, and JOBA’s vocals? Absolutely insane. He packed so much emotion into such a short album, it blew me away. The whole vibe of this project just feels like it was made for him. The mix of throwback production with these slick modern touches keeps it fresh, even though you can totally tell who his influences are—but honestly, he nails the piano rock sound so well that I don’t even care. Every track has so much texture and depth, and the fact that he pulled all that off in just 31 minutes?
This is probably the most polished album we've gotten from any Brockhampton member. JOBA is really experimenting with his sound here—there's a lot of dramatic vocals, piano, and interesting song structures. The performances are super fresh, and the instrumentals, with those big pianos and synths, really fill out the space. I won’t say I love every single track, but overall, they’re solid, and the closer especially hits hard. It's a strong start, and I’m excited to see where he takes it from here.
