NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD

Going into this, I was both excited and kinda nervous. Godspeed’s recent albums haven’t exactly had the best reception compared to their older stuff, so I didn’t know what to expect.

Turns out, I had no reason to be worried.

NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD is right up there with some of their best work. It’s not just music—it feels like they’ve crafted this whole experience. The eerie, creeping build-ups that lead to these insane, euphoric moments are still there, and honestly, they hit harder than ever.

The title itself, NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD, is a direct reference to the ongoing genocide in Palestine, and the album really focuses on that. Godspeed has always been vocal about anti-war stuff, so in a way, this album feels like something only they could pull off. The title is super bleak, and the song names, like BABYS IN A THUNDERCLOUD and RAINDROPS CAST IN LEAD, make it pretty clear what they’re commenting on.

I’ve been trying to find the right words to describe how this album feels, and honestly, there’s just so much weight to it. It’s heavy and sorrowful, with a bit of hope in there, but mostly it’s just drenched in dread. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this level of intensity from them before.

Their formula hasn’t changed much—long build-ups, huge crescendos—but this time around, it feels way more haunting and painful. The sadness and dread stick with you, even in the quietest moments. As much as I love listening to it, it gives me chills every time. It’s beautiful, but man, it’ll crush your soul.

Sound-wise, this might be the best they’ve been since Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, which was over 20 years ago. The formula might be the same, but why change it when it’s already perfect? The strings are gorgeous, the guitars feel like they’re crying, and the whole thing is just an experience.

Compared to some of their older stuff, this album doesn’t drag as much. The crescendos are easily some of the best they’ve ever done—massive and intense, they hang over you. Even the quiet parts pack a punch. I’m honestly thinking this could be a top 3 Godspeed album for me—it’s that good.

NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD is easily one of the most haunting albums of the decade. Every second hits you.
