Moon Safari

This shift of style from the old genre to Moon Safari is pretty drastic and is certainly welcome after the loud and disorienting energy of the old album. The shift in aesthetics to the lounge chill of Moon Safari then is a bit of a relief. The album is very ‘groovy’ and ‘hypnotic’ sounding. The first three tracks, as well as the last three tracks are gorgeous soundscapes. Something nostalgic perks up the overall moods and makes the overall experience warmer and more full sounding. The first track ‘La femme d’argent’ is an instrumental gentle opener that brings in the overall atmosphere of the album. It’s a quiet calm and inviting tune. Some songs are less interesting than others but this is common with most music. Others are very exciting and dynamic like ‘New Star In The Sky’ which increases the energy of the album and brings in the listener. Although I could not sit through the entire album and focus on it extensively, I found the album very pleasant and easy to listen to with some killer tracks like ‘All I Need’ and ‘Sexy Boy’. The vocals in these songs are beautiful and the groove is very relaxing. The album does have a dreamy spacey feel to it, that may be a bit sleep-inducing but there is still plenty of depth to the music overall. There are a good amount of payoffs and surprises in this record and overall I really enjoyed the album. Moon Safari is still a great album to listen to even years after its release. I feel it’s very low-maintenance music that can be enjoyed easily sitting in the background just as well as it can be given full attentive effort.
