Memoir of a Sparklemuffin
Suki Waterhouse’s second album Memoir of a Sparklemuffin is honestly such a gem. I remember reading that she didn’t think she’d ever make another record after her debut, which would’ve been a shame because this one is so good.
It definitely has a similar vibe to her earlier stuff, but the production choices here are next level. Her voice is still as dreamy as ever, and the lyrics are just as raw and emotional, but there's this cinematic, indie-rock feel that really takes it up a notch compared to her debut.
The album kicks off with the banger "Gateway Drug" and stays strong from there. "Supersad" and "Blackout Drunk" are both super cute tracks. "Nonchalant" has a killer chorus, and "My Fun" has this fun, retro ‘60s vibe going on. "Model, Actress, Whatever" is definitely a standout. "To Get You" is so pretty—probably one of my favorites, tbh. "Big Love" is another huge moment that I can see being really fun live, and "OMG" is catchy as hell. Then there’s "Could’ve Been A Star," which is hauntingly beautiful, and the album closes on a total high note with "To Love." I honestly think it’s one of Suki’s best tracks yet.
If I’m being real, Memoir of a Sparklemuffin does feel a little long. It’s still defintely super cohesive tho, so the songs all kinda live in the same space, which made my first listen feel a bit all over the place. I actually ended up splitting it into two sessions and had to go back to find my personal favorites. But now I’m all in and ready to dive deeper into this sparkly world she’s created.
