Luv 4 Rent

So, I've known about Smino for a while now, probably first heard him on that Dreamville 'Revenge of the Dreamers III' project. But, I never really dove into his stuff until now, and let me tell you, 'Luv 4 Rent' straight-up blew me away. I didn't expect to vibe with it this hard, but man, Smino really crushed it. This album is so versatile but still super cohesive, and it’s got this warm, infectious energy that’s just impossible to ignore.

Look, it’s not like this album is breaking new ground in Alt R&B, Neo-Soul, or Rap, but what it does, it does really well. The production is top-notch, and Smino’s performances are seriously on another level. The whole thing flies by in no time, thanks to how varied and well-put-together the tracks are. Smino’s flow and cadences are all over the place in the best way possible—he just pulls off so much and does it all so smoothly. Whether it’s the trap beats or the R&B grooves, he fits perfectly.

And can we talk about the production? It’s rich, textured, and you can really feel the love and care that went into it, especially on the R&B and soulful tracks. But when it needs to hit hard, it really hits hard—the rap tracks slap, and everyone featured on them brings their A-game. Sure, there are maybe a couple of tracks that didn’t totally do it for me, but overall, this album is packed with memorable, catchy songs. It’s just a super inviting and accessible listen.

So yeah, I’m stoked that I finally checked out what Smino’s been cooking up. 'Luv 4 Rent' is a killer mix of Alt R&B, Neo-Soul, and Rap that I’d totally recommend. It’s just... good. What else can I say?
