Y2K!
Even if I haven't shown much interest in Ice Spice's music or style, I was still pretty excited and curious to hear her first album this year because of all the attention she's been getting for more than a year now. I didn't listen to the first single, partly because of its horrible title and what that might imply for the song itself, but also because I wanted to experience the album as a whole. Now that I'm here, this is unfortunately exactly what I expected. Ice Spice has basically no real tangible personality other than flaunting her assets and trying to go hard while repeating the same stuff over and over, which is the most boring part of this whole project. Every feature steals the show, even when they're not trying hard. There are a bunch of songs where there's a delay in Spice's vocals to repeat what she says just to fill the dead space left by her underwhelming bars. "Did It First" is literally the only thing that stands out on this whole project. Most of the other beats sound the same, and Ice Spice has like three flows she cycles through during the album. If you like those kinds of drill beats, you'd probably enjoy them, but personally, I don't find much interesting here. The lyricism is elementary, and while I think it’s cliche to dissect styles of rhyming, there is just nothing substantial here, all the flows and rhymes are extremely basic and juvenile. There's nothing really horribly bad on here, apart from a few spots and a few odd, nonsensical bars; it's just really really boring.
