Short n’ Sweet
This album is a short mix of songs that doesn't really seem to have a clear direction. It's got all the usual Pop ingredients—love, romance, heartbreak—but it doesn't feel like it'll stand the test of time or be called a "classic." The track "Espresso" is probably the closest, but even that just sounds like your typical summer jam with all the right production tricks. Nothing wrong with that, but it just doesn’t hit special, aside from some solid lyrics, like in "Juno."
I’ve known about Sabrina for a while, mainly because she was a Disney actress with roles in The Hate U Give and Tall Girl. I knew she made music too, but until her massive exposure on TikTok, I didn’t hear much of it unless I saw a promo video or something on youtube.
Now, with "Short n Sweet," she’s at the peak of her career. She's got a No.1 song, over 70 million monthly listeners, and her tracks like "Taste" are killing it on streaming. She opens up about her personal life, especially the ups and downs of short-term relationships, but none of it really resonates with me. The instrumentals go from radio pop to country pop, and even some R&B, but it all feels too safe, like it was designed to be a mainstream hit. Songs like "Please Please Please" are just meh, even if they're catchy. So, with this being her sixth studio album in 10 years, I can confidently say that, as a first-time listener, Sabrina doesn’t have a super unique voice. She’s definitely talented, but if I didn’t know these were her songs, I probably wouldn’t recognize her voice. The lyrics don’t help either—they’re just not that impressive, and overall, it feels kind of bland. But hey, at least she’s got a great voice and she’s honest in her music.
