Seed of a Seed
Haley Heynderickx’s Seed of a Seed feels like stepping into a world crafted from soft light and careful intention, where every element is as thoughtfully arranged as a piece of nature. Her instrumentation throughout the album is gorgeous—it pulls you in with a whimsical, laid-back vibe that’s hard to shake off. Haley has this incredible talent for making subtle sounds feel grand, yet keeping everything minimalistic enough to let each element breathe. Her use of ambient sounds and delicate layering feels effortless but creates a mood that lets her lyrics stand out all the more.
Vocally, Haley’s on top of her game here. Tracks like "Ayan’s Song," "Seed of a Seed," and "Redwoods (Anxious God)" are perfectly balanced. Haley has a real gift for knowing just how much power to put behind her voice, creating this harmony where neither the vocals nor the production outshine each other—they work together like two sides of the same coin. And the emotional weight she brings is something special; she sings with so much conviction that you can feel exactly what she's going through, whether it’s joy, heartbreak, or quiet introspection. Even on tracks that don’t hit as hard musically, her emotional delivery brings them to life.
That said, some songs feel like they stop before they really take off. Tracks like "Foxglove" and "Spit in the Sink" seem to be building to something, but end just when you expect a payoff, leaving you wanting a bit more. They’re not bad, just feel a little underdeveloped.
There’s also a bit of overlap between some songs, especially on the album’s second half. For example, "Sorry Fahey" feels a lot like "Ayan’s Song" in sound and mood. Placed right after each other, it makes "Sorry Fahey" feel like a softer echo of the song before it, which can feel a bit repetitive.
The album does have its ups and downs in terms of consistency. Some songs are breathtakingly good, while others are more forgettable. Overall, Seed of a Seed is a beautiful listen that shows Haley’s unique ability to bring warmth and emotion into every note. The highs definitely make it worth your time—Haley Heynderickx continues to bring a fresh voice to folk, grounding her music in raw feeling and a natural sound.
