Black & Tan
Black & Tan by YT and Lancey Foux is a combination of different styles of Hip-Hop such as Jersey Club and Trap to create a song that is upbeat and easy to dance to. Both artists use the right amount of auto-tune to match with the artificial sounds of the song itself. This song is definitely not for everyone, and requires a developed taste in this sort of sound. However, it is still a very fun listen for those who are accustomed to autotune. The usage of a fast paced typical Lancey-type trap beat with the more melodic and heavy hitting sampling of a drill song merges really well for the ears of an experienced listener. The vocals and lyricism are incredibly strong and catchy, especially in Lancy’s “some my girls are black, some my girls are tan” hook. Both him and YT do exactly what they aimed to do in their overall lyrical aesthetic leading to this epic cohesion of different styles of British trap. The overall production and sampling is extremely authentic and in touch with the overall goal, with loud claps, 808’s, and jerk samples. Additionally, I would suggest watching the music video when listening to this song for the first time. While this is not necessarily the song itself, the music video is done extremely well giving it the vibe of an early 2000's song. This helps set the atmosphere for future listens and subsequently makes the song more enjoyable.
