Goodbye Horses

I’ve always felt like Ian’s got a ton of potential that he just hasn’t fully unlocked yet. Tracks like Magic Johnson and Hate Me are super catchy and have some solid production, so you can definitely see where he could go. But I still think he’s kinda scratching the surface, you know? Goodbye Horses is a step forward, though—way better than Valedictorian.

The production here is way more interesting. Tracks like My Call and Goodbye Horses definitely stand out because they take a different approach than what we usually get from Ian, so there’s definitely some evolution happening. Overall, the production is better than his previous stuff, even if it’s not blowing my mind. Ian also steps up his game on the mic—he’s got some nice rapping moments and even tries his hand at singing. It’s not perfect, but it’s cool to hear him try something different from what we got on Valedictorian.

That said, this album’s still got some of the same issues that bugged me with Valedictorian. There are a few tracks that still feel kinda underwhelming, and I’m not really vibing with a lot of the features (except for Yachty, obviously). The feature on Older is honestly just bad—the lyrics are awful, and it kind of kills the vibe of the track.

So, yeah, Goodbye Horses is definitely a step in the right direction. It’s still not perfect, and there are some moments that feel a bit flat, but overall, I’d say it’s an improvement.
