FOUR
Yeah, FOUR is by far their best album. It’s just a really solid pop record all around, and honestly, there’s not much to critique or praise in super detail here, so I’m not gonna go track-by-track. I’ll just hit on the high points.
First off, Night Changes is the track that everyone seems to hype up, and I totally get why. It’s definitely a beautiful ballad—maybe not my personal favorite, but it’s a standout. The music video, too—total classic. It makes me miss the days when music videos were a bigger deal and people would actually discover songs through them on YouTube.
Then there’s No Control, which is probably their most mature track, and it’s so good. Honestly, this one really should be talked about more—it’s up there with their best stuff. Another gem is 18, written by Ed Sheeran, and it’s got this super catchy melody that just makes you wanna listen on repeat.
The deluxe tracks are definitely worth checking out, especially Once In a Lifetime. This song legit sounds like something The Beatles might’ve written back in the day (I’m serious). It’s just a really beautiful, well-crafted track with amazing arrangements. Plus, it was one of Liam’s favorites, which makes it hit even harder now.
And here’s the thing I realized while listening to this album: One Direction never really had a distinct sound. Like, there’s a lot of variety in their music, but it’s hard to pinpoint what a 1D song actually sounds like. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s kind of wild how they never really developed a signature style.
In the end, FOUR is their most consistent album. It's full of catchy songs, well-produced tracks, and it’s a fun, easy listen if you’re down for some feel-good pop.
