IGOR

Igor by Tyler, the Creator, is his most popular and mainstream album that he has released. However, I felt the need to review it because of my personal love for the album and the fact that many do not understand the context behind it despite its popularity. Igor follows the timeline of Tyler falling in love with a man who is attracted to a different woman. From "Igor's Theme" to "A Boy is a Gun" Tyler finds himself in love with a man who is currently unidentified. In the second half of the album, which I believe is from "Puppet" to "Are We Still Friends", Tyler accepts that this man will never love him back and that he has to move on.

Context aside, this album is like ear-p*rn, and has gained a deserved amount of listeners. Igor went 2x platinum numerous times in various countries which many would agree was well earned. As someone who has followed Tyler's journey from a young age, I believe that Igor was a very transitional phase for Tyler as he had a lot of personal things to deal with and expressed these things in his album. I think that his following album, "Call Me If You Get Lost" was Tyler fully expressing who he was as both a celebrity and a human being.

Refocusing on Igor, I know many who would agree that Tyler's album was a 10/10 all the way through due to Tyler's chemistry of vocals in combination with the bass and harmony make it a truly special album in which no one can replicate. If somehow, you have not heard this album I would suggest you stop reading and go listen right now, regardless of any sort of music taste or background you have. Quite frankly, words do not do this album justice, and I'd consider one of the musical masterpieces of our generation.
