COYOTE

Tommy Richman’s new album COYOTE is... interesting, but honestly, I found it pretty boring. It’s kind of surprising, especially since he had a big year with some viral singles that were actually really good—none of which made it onto this project. I respect that he wanted to come out with a completely fresh set of tracks instead of just riding the wave of his viral hits, but he seemed to step too far out of his own comfort zone, making for some uninteresting tracks.

He’s going for this retro, synth-funk RnB thing, which sounds cool on paper, but it just doesn’t hit like his singles did. That being said, the album has a consistent vibe throughout, even if the songs themselves are kinda mid. I still think Tommy’s got the potential to drop some bangers in the future, though—his voice is made for pop-RnB hits. He just needs to come through with better production and some catchier ideas next time. Overall… Its alright, I hope he finds out how to be authentic but also make good music.
