TIMELESS
KAYTRANADA returns with his new full-length album, "Timeless," a twenty-one track, hour-long project that, despite its length and complexity, manages to avoid feeling overly bloated or dragging. Surprisingly, the album flows well, and I don't have significant issues with any particular song. The funky, R&B-esque production is consistently solid, with standout performances from a long list of features. While the album rarely reaches great or inventive heights, it doesn't disappoint, and nothing overstays its welcome for too long. My only real gripe is that the best tracks, "Do 2 Me," "Witchy," and "Snap My Finger," are clustered towards the end, meaning you have to listen to most of the album to reach its peak moments. These tracks combine catchy production with excellent individual performances, and if the entire album maintained this level of quality, it could have been one of the best of the year. Nevertheless, "Timeless" is a good, albeit not great, album with great vibes, atmosphere, and some pretty awesome tracks. While some parts are not very memorable and the album can feel a bit overwhelming, it's still a worthwhile listen, particularly for its radiant and punchy sound, and the impressive contributions from featured artists. Another problem I have with this album is that it constantly feels too long and fully wringed out for minutes, but, despite some forgettable cuts that add to the album's bloat, KAYTRANADA's ear for samples and drums pays off, creating a vibrant and enjoyable experience. Even though "Timeless" isn't as tight and consistent as "BUBBA," it remains a great album to dance or groove to, showcasing KAYTRANADA's talent for crafting immaculate summer jams with superb production. Despite its inconsistencies, I had a lot of fun with this album, which, while not reinventing the wheel, expands on what KAYTRANADA excels at, delivering another collection of exceptional summer tunes.
