Tiger
As of recently i’ve thoroughly became a fan of TBD, he is amongst my favorite cloud rappers now, and this project itself I am incredibly fond of. Honestly, I never expected to become such a huge fan of Thaiboy from Drain Gang. I always thought he fit better as a feature rather than a main artist for a full album, but this record completely changed my mind. I've been hooked on this mixtape for over a month, and it still feels fresh. The beats crafted by Whitearmor, Gud, and Yung Sherman are incredible. Tracks like "Haters Broke" with its rumbling bass and "Shadow Silence" with its Jai Paul-esque synth hits are unforgettable, each element standing out. Thaiboy shines with his smooth, confident delivery and cool cadence, especially on tracks that veer away from the Alt R&B vibe. Lean and Bladee's features are spot-on; Bladee delivers one of his most intense and melancholic verses, exploring his battle with depression and attempts to mask it with materialism, while Lean continues to flex and boast in his signature style. In the latter half of the mixtape, Thaiboy delves into more introspective and emotional territory, discussing betrayal and relationships, though it's not all serious—"Shadow Silence" is a standout track about loyalty and wealth. The mixtape culminates in a high note with "Vän," where Thaiboy pours his heart out in Thai over a powerful beat, ending with a bittersweet mix of bass and synth that perfectly wraps up the album. Drain Gang proves to be one of the most talented musical collectives around, and this being only their second project highlights their immense potential.
