Solar Power

Lorde is back with her long-awaited third album, "Solar Power," after releasing two of the most defining pop records of the last decade. Known for evolving her sound, there was a lot of speculation about what she'd bring to the table this time. During her 4-year hiatus, it seems she spent more time in her hometown with family and friends, going to the beach, detoxing from the online world, and, of course, making new music. The result is the most relaxed and laid-back album of her career, rooted in 90s indie folk and soft rock—a big departure from the energetic synth-pop of her previous work. "Solar Power" feels like the perfect album for chilling at the beach. The soothing soundscapes, with watery guitar chords, subtle saxophone, and delicate vocals, create a calm and stunning experience. Listening with headphones really makes you feel like you're on a beach vacation, which aligns with Lorde's own journey of stepping away from the pop world to find a new, healthier state of mind. While the album has its highs, like the heartfelt "The Man with the Axe," it also has its lows. Some tracks, like "Stoned at the Nail Salon," feel bare and underwhelming, and a few filler songs disrupt the album's flow. Despite these flaws, "Solar Power" is a pleasant, though not groundbreaking, addition to Lorde's discography. It doesn't have the same impact as her previous albums, but it's still a nice, relaxing listen.
