Perverts
I went into Perverts with sky-high expectations. Preacher’s Daughter was a masterpiece—a dreamy mix of genres with a killer story—but it left me wondering where Hayden would go next. Then came the teases: a tracklist boasting 89 minutes for just nine songs, the haunting single Punish, and her chaotic YouTube posts about brutalist architecture and, uh, other questionable topics. I was hooked.
Now that it’s here, I can safely say Perverts is incredible. It’s a complete 180 from Preacher’s Daughter. Gone are the dreamy ballads and lush production—this is dark ambient chaos, with long droning guitars, industrial noise, and vocals that show up sparingly. Somehow, the slower, more stripped-back vibe works. When Hayden does sing, it feels monumental.
The lyrics? Fascinating and bold. Perverts dives deep into sex, self-gratification, pain, and our messy relationship with God. These aren’t traditional songs either—no verses or choruses, just hypnotic mantras that repeat until they’re burned into your brain. It’s weird, it’s heavy, and it’s exhausting, but it’s also stunning.
This project is a challenge, especially for fans of Preacher’s Daughter, but if you’re willing to embrace the darkness, it’s worth every second. Hayden’s done it again—Perverts might not be for everyone, but for me, it’s already a contender for project of the year.
