Happy
As someone entirely new to Jin’s solo work, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this album. Coming back from military service is no small feat, and it feels like this project serves as a heartfelt celebration of both his personal growth and artistic evolution. Across the album’s tracks, Jin delivers a wide range of emotions and styles, making it a compelling listen—even for a first-timer like me.
The opening track, “Running Wild,” wastes no time making an impression. Jin’s vocals are breathtaking—powerful yet soothing—and his English delivery feels effortless and natural. The song carries a youthful, nostalgic energy, paired with a vintage charm that evokes a deep emotional response. It’s the kind of track that sneaks up on you, stirring feelings of bittersweet longing. My only gripe? I wish it were longer because it’s that good.
“I’ll Be There” leans into the album’s rock influences, blending energetic rhythms with a splash of joy that feels undeniably uplifting. Jin’s voice carries a reassuring warmth, adding a comforting layer to the song’s vibrant energy. It’s simple in concept but executed so well that it’s impossible not to smile while listening.
With “Another Level,” the tone takes a darker, more introspective turn. It’s a bit of a curveball compared to the other tracks, with a more somber atmosphere that feels heavy and surprising. While the song is strong on its own, its placement feels slightly jarring against the rest of the album’s lighter moments. Still, the emotional depth here is impressive and worth a listen.
“네게 닿을 때까지 (Falling)” sees Jin fully embracing a pop-rock sound, delivering an infectious energy that builds as the song progresses. It’s a track that keeps surprising you, layering joy and dynamism into an already compelling melody. This one had me hooked from start to finish, and it’s easily one of the standout tracks.
Then there’s “Heart on the Window,” a collaboration with Wendy that might just be one of the best duets I’ve heard in K-pop this year. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and their voices complement each other beautifully, creating a track that feels alive and brimming with emotion. It’s a bold pairing that pays off, making this a highlight of the album.
The closer, “그리움에 (I Will Come to You),” strips things back with a heartfelt ballad that feels like a love letter to Jin’s journey. It’s simple in production but rich in sentiment, carrying a reflective tone that ties the album together beautifully. The soulful lyrics and understated arrangement make it a poignant and powerful ending to an otherwise uplifting record.
For someone who’s never delved into Jin’s solo music before, this album was an impressive introduction. It’s an emotional, well-rounded project that showcases his talent and versatility while offering plenty of moments to connect with. Whether you’re a longtime fan or, like me, discovering Jin for the first time, this is an album worth exploring.
