exits

North Georgian producer and artist Battlement shows a glimpse into his upcoming project through the single “exits". Firstly, I deeply appreciate this track for its unique character, directly aligning with Battlements values as a music creator. With a mind driven on pioneering a new wave of electronic/pop fusion, he is able to masterfully demonstrate his understanding of this completely foreign soundscape through this single, leaving the door wide open for the release of an upcoming EP. The tale of a 19 year old trying to defy typical radio norms is not at all new, but something about Battlement just feels different. Possibly his high distortion undertone throughout this track, or maybe his unique sampling of Will Eastmans “Froggie”, whatever it is, it causes him to stand out, especially through his production. This track specifically reminds me of more of an upbeat early Jean Dawson track or even a dance-ified quannnic or Jane Remover project, these comparisons stem from the clear trailblazing natures of each of these artists, and how they are all able to see past typical musical norms to create a genre-bending soundscape. This track begins with a super interesting combination of guitar, heavy drums, and long pitched vocals. Although production wise there is almost always a lot of different things going on, I do believe it all works perfectly to create this kind of music where you can really appreciate if you listen to it as a complete track or if you look at each individual noise or sample you can still find something incredibly unique to his style of production. I do believe this track starts too quickly, I think that the intro can definitely be strung out further into something more synth and vocal heavy kind of Mike Dean esque, rather than just immediately jumping into a fast paced beat. Overall though this track delivers, exactly what was intended, the vocals are strong and perfectly placed, the production and the beat is incredibly cool and fun, and the overall dynamic of the song is unique to Battlement. While there is stuff to work on, I believe the positives heavily outweigh the negatives. The ability to create a very unique track is incredibly difficult so I commend this effort and showcased ability so far.
