Blush
I’m back from my one-month break — sorry for the lack of uploads. I was backpacking through Vietnam with no computer and barely any stable internet, but I’ve got a stack of reviews written up and ready to go. First up is Blush by Kevin Abstract.
Let me just say this right away: Blush is incredible. It’s honestly the best thing Kevin Abstract has made to date, and I’ve had it on repeat ever since it dropped. I listened to it front to back multiple times a day during my trip, and it never got old. This is the kind of album that sticks with you. It feels like the exact project Kevin has always wanted to make, and you can feel that intention in every detail.
From the start, the rollout had me hyped. Kevin promoted this album constantly, and it was clear how proud he was of it. That kind of passion doesn't always translate into the final product, but in this case, it absolutely does. The guest list alone was enough to raise expectations — Quadeca, JPEGMAFIA, Danny Brown, Dominic Fike — and somehow, the final result feels even more focused and cohesive than I imagined.
“Geezer” was the perfect intro. Kevin’s performance is strong, the production is warm and nostalgic, and Dominic Fike’s hook sounds like something pulled from a golden-era 2000s track. That song set the tone for the rest of the album — a sound that’s dreamy, heartfelt, and deeply personal.
The entire project feels intentional and emotionally grounded. Kevin sounds more comfortable in his own skin than ever before. There are no distracting vocal effects, no over-processing — just great songwriting and sincere delivery. His verses and choruses throughout the album are some of the strongest of his career.
The choruses in particular shine, and a lot of that comes down to Love Spells, who was a standout surprise. Their contributions fit perfectly with the warm, stripped-down aesthetic of the album. The chemistry between Kevin and Love Spells adds a softness to the record that really brings everything together.
Blush thrives in its quieter, more reflective moments — soft guitars, understated vocals, and honest lyrics. It’s a vulnerable record, but never heavy-handed. Every track feels like it belongs, and the flow of the album makes it easy to get lost in.
If I had to nitpick, maybe a few features don’t hit as hard as Kevin’s own performances — but honestly, that’s more of a testament to how good Kevin is on this. The album feels full, thoughtful, and incredibly well put together. There’s not much here I’d change.
At its core, Blush is an album made with love. You can hear it in every chorus, every verse, every production choice. It’s the sound of an artist making exactly what he wants to make, surrounded by collaborators who understand the vision. It’s not just a step forward — it feels like the moment Kevin Abstract truly arrived.
Almost perfect. One of my favorite albums this year.
