Awake

While searching the net for inspiration as a graphic design student, I first stumbled upon Tycho, the brainchild of Scott Hansen, whose ambient shimmering electronic tones surrounded my university days. Enthralled by his beautiful vintage-inspired graphics created under the name ISO50, I found his music seamlessly complementing his visuals, offering a soothing backdrop for my late-night design endeavors. Tracks like ‘The Daydream’, ‘Sunrise Projector’, and ‘The Disconnect’ became the soundtrack to my creative nights, triggering visual imaginings akin to his graphics. Tycho’s vocal-less tracks have a remarkable ability to transport the mind into a world of sunny days, glistening waters, and rainbows, echoing the themes of his earlier artworks. With the addition of a drummer and bass player for his album Awake, Tycho’s music takes on new dimensions, with tracks like ‘Awake’ and ‘Montana’ maintaining his signature sound while incorporating driving bass and drum rhythms. ‘Apogee’ and ‘Spectre’ introduce break-beat rhythms and exhilarating upbeat sounds, showcasing the evolving complexity of Tycho’s music. Throughout the album, Hansen’s distinctive melodies remain pristine, offering a laid-back, meditative listening experience, with tracks like ‘Plains’ highlighting new elements like gentle guitar playing. While maintaining his signature style, Awake hints at exciting possibilities for future Tycho productions, with the introduction of new drumbeats and guitar elements promising further exploration and development.
