Alfredo

Alfredo, the collaborative LP from rapper Freddie Gibbs and producer The Alchemist is one of the most underrated albums of the last 20 years. The album consists of some of the softest and most melodic beats in Hip-hop paired with an almost violent and aggressive style of rap that does not seem like it would work. Still, after listening to this album at least 20 times, the dynamic that Freddie and the Alchemist have is, at least in my mind, second to none. Freddie explores themes of drugs and gang violence while rapping over beats that are almost what you would expect from a ballad or a lullaby. The LP, at its base and ignoring any of the features is already one of the best projects I have ever heard, but with the addition of verses from Tyler, The Creator, Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher, and Rick Ross, the album catapults itself into a new tier of music, one reserved only for the best of the best. A few personal favorite songs of mine on this album would be Something to Rap About, babies & fools, Skinny Suge, and Scottie Beam. These songs encapsulate what I believe makes this album stand out among countless hours. The soft piano over the almost brutal lyrics makes the song that much more interesting and engaging. It shows the depth and talent of both of these greats and in my opinion, allows them to create one of the best albums of all time.
